Tale as old as time, true as it can be...

Bonus Round 3 is now open! This time, the theme is fairy tales and childhood favourites. Entries should be inspired in some way by classic fairy tales, Disney films, or other childhood classics.

If you have an idea for something you’d like to see, please leave a setting, the characters involved and any other details as a PROMPT below. Then read through everyone else’s prompts, and leave a FILL for any which catch your eye. Fills can be in any media, and they need not be long, but please put a little effort in – if anyone starts spamming this post for points, we’ll be able to tell.

You should place PROMPT/FILL, your team name and a brief summary in the comment title. NSFW prompts and fills should mention this in the summary or at the top of the post. Please note that NSFW includes any level of sexual content.

You will be awarded five points per prompt for the first two prompts you leave. The first three fills posted for each prompt will receive 15 points, the next three 10 points, and the next three 5 points. Prompts with ten or more fills will no longer receive fill points.

You can post prompts or fills for any ship this round, including gen/platonic ones (which should be indicated with an & as above). However, you may not fill your own prompt. We also encourage people not to fill prompts from their teammates, although the points will not be deducted if you do.

Bonus round fills can include links provided they are publicly viewable. Works can also be cross-posted to other websites, as there is no anonymity requirement in bonus rounds. However, works posted directly to comments will be limited to 16,000 characters by the Dreamwidth comment limit. Longer works should therefore be divided between multiple comments.

Remember, Team Chuck can participate in bonus rounds. Please note that only two prompts will receive points this round, although you can leave more if you wish to.

This round is now closed.

(I sort of fudged the ending. With no internet all day, I had nothing to do but write, but also limited resources to look up how these things are supposed to go!)

Castiel had argued that it was a simple mistake, that Lucifer must not lose faith in their father, but Lucifer was not so easily convinced. He knew that their stepmother was not fond of the boys, thinking them strange in their closeness to each other, and when they found themselves alone in the woods, Lucifer had been sure that it was her doing, and that only by his own cleverness in laying down a path of stones had they been able to find their way home again.

“Lucifer, you are paranoid,” Castiel says as he trails along behind their father, back into the woods for another day of hunting and gathering firewood. The boys were not allowed to stay at home with their stepmother, who was busy cooking and cleaning and could not possibly be forced to keep an eye on two rowdy young boys as well.

Lucifer rolls his eyes and drops another bread crumb. The stones had been discovered and their stepmother had thrown them in the river, so today Lucifer was breaking small pieces off of the bread she’d given them so that he would be able to follow the trail home at sunset.

“I am no such thing, little brother,” he says, ruffling Castiel’s hair. “I am merely cautious. These woods are dangerous, and if we are separated from our father again, I want us to be able to make it home safely.
Lucifer lamented his brother’s willingness to believe everything their father said. He loved his father very much, but he had also heard the conversations between his father and stepmother. There would not be enough food for the family come winter, and something needed to be done.

They helped their father as best they could, checking the traps (empty) and gathering what wood they could find and carry themselves into the wheelbarrow he brought along.

At midday they took a break. Their father gives them each a bit of smoked meat, and they eat in silence. Then he stoops to kiss them each on the forehead.

“I’ll take the wheelbarrow back home and come back for you when I’ve emptied it,” he tells them. “You boys be good and wait for me here. Don’t follow me. It’s faster if I go alone.”

Lucifer opens his mouth to protest, but his father just shakes his head. “Stay here, my son. Please.”
Then he takes the wheelbarrow and disappears into the forest. Castiel sits down on a stump and folds his hands in his lap.

“Sit with me, Lucifer. We can wait for him together.”

“He’s not coming back,” Lucifer says back over his shoulder, watching the trees in the direction their father had taken.

“I wish you wouldn’t say such things, brother,” Castiel whines. “It frightens me.”

Lucifer turns and walks to where Castiel is sitting. His bright blue eyes are shining with tears, and Lucifer wraps his arms around him.

“Don’t worry, Cas,” he says, shushing him gently. “I’ll get us home.”

The day wears on, and their father doesn’t come back. As the shadows in the forest grow long, Lucifer finally manages to convince Castiel to follow the breadcrumb trail back to the cabin.

The trail stops after only a few crumbs, and Lucifer is confused. He’s sure he put down more crumbs than that, but then a bird flits down to the forest floor near his feet and picks up a crumb, and Lucifer realizes his mistake.

They are lost and alone in the forest. Their father is not coming back.

Castiel cries, startled by every snap of a twig or call of an owl. Lucifer holds his hand and does his best to guide them, trying to pick out rocks and trees that look familiar. After a while they come upon a narrow path, and though Lucifer knows that the path does not lead to their cabin, it is too dark for him to ignore what could clearly be a way to safety for the night.

They follow the path, hurrying along side by side, ducking under low branches and even laughing a little, their hearts lightened by the idea of a roof over their heads for the night.

The trees part and a house comes in to view. It’s small and brown, with two windows glowing pleasantly, and the roof is topped with white even though it’s still only autumn.

The boys creep closer, following the path where it turns into a lane leading to the front door. Lucifer looks back to find that Castiel has stopped to inspect one of the poles that marks the edge of the lane.

He licks it. Lucifer rushes forwards, but Castiel is smiling.

“It’s candy,” he explains joyfully. “Peppermint. Look at the stripes!”

He leans in again but Lucifer stops him with a hand on his chest. The door to the little house creaks open and a figure is silhouetted in the doorway.

“Is there someone out there?” The figure calls. Lucifer and Castiel exchange a glance, and Lucifer steps forward, motioning for Castiel to hide behind him.

“We are,” he says. “We’re lost, and we need somewhere to stay the night.”

“Children? Oh, I love children. Please, come in.”

At that, the boys run forward, excited enough by the idea of warm hearth to forget their fear of strangers. She’s lovely, young with dark hair and a round face, but there is something cold in her grin when she steps to the side to let them in.

“Yes,” she says, shutting the door behind them, “I love children. They taste wonderful.”

Castiel’s eyes go wide and she scoops him up, carrying him to a cage at the opposite side of the house. Lucifer tries to help, but his feet are stuck in a sticky sugar paste near the door.

“Your turn first. Your brother needs to fatten up some,” she says to Lucifer as she locks Castiel inside the cage.

The paste disappears and Lucifer lurches forward, falling to his knees. Now that he’s inside, he can see clearly that it’s a gingerbread house, decked with cookie and candies, perfect for luring small children. The witch leans down to grab him and he pushes her hard, knocking her back against a table.

“You rotten little brat. I’ll have you for my supper!” She screeches and moves to grab him again, but Lucifer ducks to the side. He sees her oven, door open and embers glowing, and he has an idea.
He places himself right in front of it.

“You want me? Come get me!” He shouts, and she takes the bait.

Lucifer catches her by the waist and lifts, heaving her into the oven. She wails and screams, but he slams the door to muffle the sounds.

Castiel is wide-eyed and terrified, cowering in the back corner of the cage. Lucifer takes a poker from the fireplace and stabs at the lock until it breaks open, then kneels down to open the door.

“Are you okay?” He asks Castiel, who can only nod dumbly and sniffle.

“I thought she was going to kill you,” Castiel mumbles. “But you killed her.”

“That I did,” Lucifer says, looking back towards the oven. “And it seems to me that we won’t have to worry about food anymore, not for a while anyway.”

At that Castiel smiles and crawls out of the cage, hugging his brother and smiling.
