I’ll take your brain to another dimension. Pay close attention...
Ahoy there, shippers!
Allow us to take the opportunity to congratulate you and your crewmates on the success of your ongoing voyage. You are now roughly a third of the way through this gruelling supernatural odyssey, and we, your mods, could not be prouder.
We will now reveal the theme for the second round of SRS:
in-series AU!
By which we mean something quite specific.
This time round, we would like to see your characters interact within
one of the alternate universes established in canon. The striking thing about
Supernatural the series is its nigh-indefatigable propensity to explore the various possibilities inherent in missed opportunities, and roads not taken. As such, we’d like you to do some exploring of your own. For instance, would the legendary love between Charlie and Meg suffer a dampener in 2014? What if Castiel and Bobby had a Very Special Episode devoted to them in the Supernatural sitcom? More importantly, who’s left alive if the Titanic remains un-sunk?
Note: if your chosen characters do not actually appear in the episodes containing these universes – as will be the case for most of you – use your imagination! If Lucifer were a character in It’s A Terrible Life, what would his job be? If Ruby were a character in
Doctor Sexy, would she be the Manipulative But Sexy intern, or a comatose patient admitted for french fry addiction?
Suggested in-series AUs include:
- 2014!verse: from 5.04, The End. Self-explanatory enough. Sam says yes to Lucifer in Detroit: everything goes to shit; Castiel gets laid approximately a million times more than he ever will in canon; and nobody has enough toilet paper. Dare you let your beloved pairing loose in this environment?
- meta!verse: the alternate universe in 6.15, The French Mistake. Please note that this is not the same as straight-up RPF. The characters in The French Mistake are parodies of their real life counterparts. Hence, if you decide to explore this ‘verse, we expect to see, for instance, not Misha Collins in all his zany, philanthropic glory, but meta!Misha who is, in actuality, something of a jerk. Likewise, if you are using meta!characters who did not appear in the episode itself – for instance, meta!Alona, or meta!Mark - we would expect to see them equivalently parodied.
- It’s A Terrible Life!verse: from episode 4.17, It’s A Terrible Life. In which everyone has a soul-crushing corporate job that they secretly hate.
- What Is And Never Should Be!verse: from episode 2.20, What Is And Never Should Be. In which Dean’s wish-fulfilment fantasies create a less-than-ideal universe.
- Doctor Sexy, M.D.: this one’s self-explanatory. Have fun, kids.
- Any of the universes from Changing Channels: 5.08, Changing Channels, and yeah, we all know this one. You can drop your characters into the Supernatural sitcom. Try your luck with the weirdass game show where everyone gets punched in the balls, and blunt, accusatory questions about people’s personal lives fly left, right and centre. Crack some truly terrible puns in what is totally not a CSI: Miami rip-off. Alternatively, damned if we’re going to stand in the way of anyone desperate to write an AU based on the “I have genital herpes” universe.
- My Heart Will Go On!verse: from 6.17, My Heart Will Go On. How will your characters cope in a world without the Titanic? More importantly, what kind of major knock-on effects has Balthazar’s minor historical modification managed to accumulate?
Please note that this is not a definitive list of the available options! If you can think of an in-series AU that we’ve managed to miss, feel free to pursue it. On the other hand, if you’re feeling unsure, you might want to message us in order to check that it fits the criteria.

in the same format as Main Round 1, to a comm which will be created closer to the deadline.
