You better promise me I’ll be back in time...
Welcome to our official bonus round one. Bonus Round 0 is now officially closed! Don’t worry, though – BR0.5 is open for one more week alongside this round. This time, the theme is historical settings.
If you have an idea for something you’d like to see, please leave a time period, the characters involved and any other details as a PROMPT below. Then read through everyone else’s prompts, and leave a FILL for any which catch your eye. Fills can be in any media, and they need not be long, but please put a little effort in – if anyone starts spamming this post for points, we’ll be able to tell.
You should place PROMPT/FILL, your current team affiliation and a brief summary in the comment title. NSFW prompts and fills should mention this in the summary or at the top of the post.
You will be awarded five points per prompt for the first five prompts you leave. The first three fills posted for each prompt will receive 15 points, the next three 10 points, and the next three 5 points. Prompts with ten or more fills will no longer receive fill points.
You can post prompts or fills for any ship this round, including gen/platonic ones (which should be indicated with an & as above). However, you may not fill your own prompt. We also encourage people not to fill prompts from their teammates, although the points will not be deducted if you do.
Bonus round fills can include links provided they are publicly viewable. Works can also be cross-posted to other websites, as there is no anonymity requirement in bonus rounds. However, works posted directly to comments will be limited to 16,000 characters by the Dreamwidth comment limit. Longer works should therefore be divided between multiple comments.
Remember, Team Chuck can participate in bonus rounds, and if you change teams, points earned will transfer with you until the end of the team shuffle period.
Edit: This round is now closed. You may still leave fills if you wish to, but no further points will be awarded.
Fill: Eden, (Team Castiel/Lucifer)
Date: 2012-12-01 12:29 am (UTC)The first humans were confined to the Garden of Eden. It was lush and sunny and just absolutely beautiful. Paradise, supposedly. Angels were forbidden from entering. Lucifer lingered on the outermost edges, peeking into this little abode with intense curious eyes. Michael worried for him, even then.
“What are you doing, little brother?”
Lucifer jumped, a small frown marring his perfect features. “I’m not in the garden,” he said.
“But you were thinking about it.”
“Am I to be punished for thinking?”
“No, but this is a dangerous path, Lucifer. Come home with me now.”
He cast one more longing glance towards the gates before turning to follow Michael back to Heaven.
The silence that stretched through the following days did little to quiet Michael’s heart. There were whisperings that someone was spreading discontent, that someone was dissatisfied with the creation of humanity, that someone was considering breaking Father’s laws. At his core, Michael knew it was Lucifer. He had seen the light that danced in his brother’s eyes when he peered through the gates and caught glimpses of Eden. He had felt the little hum of excitement in Lucifer’s brilliant grace whenever he was permitted to walk on Earth. Michael knew, better than anyone, that Lucifer felt too strongly about this little planet that was never meant to be his.
His fears were realized when he noticed he couldn’t feel Lucifer’s presence in Heaven. He couldn’t find him anywhere. He tried not to panic, tried not to jump to any conclusions. Lucifer liked to play games; that was all. He liked to rile Michael’s emotions up and then laugh at his supposedly gross overreactions. This was a game, angelic hide and go seek. It had nothing to do with the fleeting visions Michael couldn’t drive away, nothing to do with the image of Lucifer tracing his fingers over some human girl’s plump, red lips, glistening with the sheen of fruit juice.
“Michael!”
The voice broke him away from the haze of his mind and forced his attention to a younger brother.
“Hey, bro,” Gabriel said, giving Michael a puzzled look. “You alright?”
“Lucifer.”
“Huh?”
“Where is Lucifer?”
“Beats me. I haven’t seen Lu in a while. Last I knew, he was going down to—” He didn’t get the chance to finish. Michael was already gone.
He found Lucifer circling the walls of Eden once more.
“What are you doing?” Michael snarled, grabbing Lucifer’s wrist firmly and jerking him away from the gates. “You are not supposed to be here.”
Lucifer just smiled. “Correction, dear brother. I’m not supposed to be inside, and I am not. The little hairless apes have yet to take over the entire planet.”
“Watch your mouth. You’re close to blasphemy. They are Father’s creation, and we must—”
“We must what, Michael? Love them? Bow to them? Surrender this beautiful, amazing planet to them? Have you looked at them, brother? Actually looked at them? I see through to their souls. They are broken and flawed, twisted and corrupt. They—”
The harsh impact of Michael’s palm across Lucifer’s face stunned him into silence. He stared blankly, eyes wide and wounded, and stretched his fingers up to touch the still burning corner of his mouth.
“You… you struck me.”
“I’m sorry,” Michael said. “But you were speaking blasphemy, Lucifer. It’s dangerous.”
“I haven’t done anything,” Lucifer said hotly, clenching his jaw.
“Your speech is dangerous.”
“Shall I be punished for words?”
“Words lead to action, little brother. I fear for you.”
“So you hit me?”
“I am trying to save you, Lucifer.”
“Save me? Save me from what? From talking? From thinking? I haven’t spoken one word that isn’t true.”
“That’s enough. Leave this place. Now.”
Lucifer stared at Michael levelly for several moments. “Are you giving me orders?”
“I won’t ask again.”
Lucifer was gone in an instant, but the simmering resentment that hung in the air began to make Michael fear that his intervention had been counter-productive. He followed to Heaven. He couldn’t let his brother go harboring such dark feelings. He knew where they would lead him.
Michael found Lucifer easily enough. He always went to the same spot in Heaven, and the brilliance of his grace made him easy to detect.
“You’re upset,” Michael whispered.
Lucifer gave him a cold look. “Of course I am upset. Apparently you now intend to manhandle me into agreeing with you.”
“I’m protecting you.”
“From what?”
“Yourself.” Michael sat down behind his brother, stretched his wings around him in an embrace. “Don’t do it, Lucifer. Please.”
Lucifer stared blankly forward for a long stretch of silence. “Tell me I am wrong. Tell me you do not see how horribly twisted they are.”
“They are God’s children, as surely as we are. They are to be protected and adored. Father has made his decision.”
“And so have I.”
“No.” Michael tightened his arms around Lucifer’s shoulders, pulling him into an almost crushing embrace. I’ll just hold you here, he thought. I’ll hold you here and never let you go, and you won’t be able to do this.
They passed the time thus, clinging to each other, for what seemed like an eternity. Michael could feel darkness and rage twisting inside his younger brother’s grace, feel him slipping away, right through his fingers. That was the moment, he would later think, that he too began to hate humanity. It was the moment he lost everything, the moment Lucifer turned the world upside down with a thought. It was the beginning of the end, the first step down the dark road of destiny that inevitably stretched before them, and Michael paved the way in his failure to protect his most beloved brother. He never forgave himself.
