For this one you can go either the traditional route (the English colonizing the Native Americans in Virginia) or get a little creative - maybe the angels are descending from Heaven to colonize small towns scattered across America, and that's how Castiel meets Sam?
Either way, one of them showing the other that they are not "savages" and that it's possible to coexist peacefully together. Can be gen or shippy, your choice. (After all, the Disney film romanticized the real story, so why can't we?)
